| Don’t just "copy"
what you see. Rather, find a personal
Interpretation of what you see. This may be difficult
for you to stop using photos as a guide. As artists
we spend years painting objects the way they look,
training the brain to paint in a different method
is tough.
Overcome the slave mentality by becoming a master.
Paint from your experiences not from your photos.
Here are some suggestions to assist you on your way.
- Indulge and develop your own habits. Paint the
way you want to paint.
- Adopt fresher, speedier, ways of drawing the
sketch.
- Free yourself from reference material, i.e. photos,
early in a work's progress.
- Invent from the imagination. I give you permission
to make it up.
- Look at your work as shapes and design not as
objects. Concentrate on the abstract.
"When you
have confidence, you have power.
When you have Power, you can do amazing
things."
