2 ½ MONTHS ON & OFF THE ROAD – Part 2
By Ned Mueller

Ned Mueller - Small Temple Bhutan

Small Temple Bhutan
10 x 12 Oil

Next stop on my great adventure was the Far East. I met up with some friends, Paul Mullally, Zee Zee & Bill Mott. We spent three days in Bangkok and then flew to Bhutan in the Himalayas. They only allow about 6,000 people a year into Bhutan and everyone pays $200 a day, which includes food, lodging, transportation and a guide. I found it a pretty good deal with great food and very good lodging. It is the original "Shangri-La". Their gross national product is "happiness" and they are doing a great job of maintaining that by limiting how they come into the modern world---mostly on their terms. Four of us took this trip---3 artists and a spouse. Again, it was a great adventure filled with unusual, dramatic scenery and wonderful native customs and culture.

N.C. had a keen ability for recalling the smallest visual details of a scene---something that would serve him well as an illustrator
