Year in Review By Stefan
Baumann
This is the First Anniversary of Outdoorpainting.com. During
this time I have contributed articles and offered advice
to millions of people, both in my workshops and demonstrations,
and also on my PBS series, The Grand View. My primary mission
is to inspire my audience and my students, and to express
all the passion I have for painting on location.
It takes a lot of training to capture a vista in a two
hour sitting. I see artists struggle with the random characteristics
of location painting, but in the process, I also see the
evolutionary change take place: An artist becoming an Outdoor
Painter. My primary objective when I teach is to train an
artist to see deeper than the physical character of a landscape;
the story is in the soul of a vista, not merely in its lines.
It is in this expression that one’s artistic integrity
is manifest.
OutdoorPainting.com has become a leading resource for artists
and collectors, featuring the historical icons of Plein
Air painting, and the techniques and approaches that translate
to a contemporary practice. In the coming months, we will
be looking to showcase up and coming artists in the Featured
Gallery page of Outdoorpainting.com, and bring full circle,
our examination of history in its relation to the present.
We at Oudoorpainting.com are dedicated to your pursuit
of a miraculous life, both in and out of the studio. Painting
is the culmination of life experience. Every place you visit
and every one you meet has the potential of contributing
to this unbelievable journey. Be alive and sensitive to
the world around you; observe the ordinary and reveal the
extraordinary. Set your goals wisely and keep your work
disciplined and constant. Keep track of your progress by
dating your paintings and reviewing your portfolio quarterly.
Within one year, your vision will explode with possibility.
Many students have visions of becoming a professional artist…Others
paint for pleasure. Whatever your goals, express what you
see with confidence, and convey it to others so they see
it too….this is the secret of painting.
